Elizabeth Murphy-Lewis
Parent Support Consultant

Elizabeth Murphy-Lewis LCSW, LADC is a clinical social worker in private practice in Portland, Maine. She has been practicing clinical work since receiving her Master’s from the University of Denver in 2005. Prior to establishing her private practice, Elizabeth’s experience included work in specialized educational programming, the public school system, as well as in community based and hospital settings.
Elizabeth is dedicated to a compassionate, client-centered approach grounded in Motivational Interviewing, an evidence-based communication model that employs empathic, active listening to empower positive change.
“I really believe in the model,” she says. “I practice it and hold myself accountable to the practice. When people listen with accurate empathy, the client becomes the expert; so much can happen. People can become less fearful, less anxious, less concerned with disappointing others. Everybody has the ability to live their best life…When you stick to the model, listen well with empathy, and reflect with accuracy, you give people the opportunity to learn from their own words what they want in their lives.”
She began learning and training MI in 2005 and joined the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers in Sheffield, England in 2011. Elizabeth currently trains MI across multiple settings and is committed to sharing this style of empathic, therapeutic conversation with students, their parents, and all who may benefit.
