Emma Lang

Collegiate Learning Specialist

We are delighted to introduce Emma Lang as one of our Collegiate Learning Specialists. Emma has a talent for connecting quickly with students by making them feel comfortable being and knowing themselves. “I believe in seeing students make not only progress with academics and grades, but in terms of understanding and accepting their whole profile.”

Being the daughter of a speech pathologist and an attorney, she was raised with constant and direct communication. Today it is part of her DNA. “I am consistent in my messaging,” she says regarding her work with students. “I am mindful of the fact that they have already received a lot of “you should” instruction.” Thus, she provides information strategically so that students can become equipped to make informed decisions for themselves.

When her students face challenges, she recognizes it is the work they do together before the challenge that is important “so that the student feels comfortable and confident bringing that challenge forward.”

“When I was in high school, I felt like the script had already been written for me,” she says. “In college, I was driven to make it my own.” Great mentors inspired her and helped her understand she had the tools she needed to do things differently. She brings that inspiration to her work with students.

Her drive is backed up by education and experience. Before becoming a Learning Specialist at the Northeastern University Learning Disabilities Program, she was a Disability Specialist at Northeastern’s Disability Resource Center. Among her many support roles, she has been a Graduate Assistant for Disability Support Services at the Providence College Office of Academic Services, an intern at the College of the Holy Cross Office of Accessibility Services, and has worked with first-year parents and family members as part of Assumption College’s Office of Student Activities. She has a Master’s in Education in Higher Education from Providence College, in Providence RI and a B.A. in Human Services and Rehabilitation from Assumption College, where her minors were English and Psychology.
