Students and Parents Recommend Summer Cohort
The Focus Collegiate Summer Cohort is more than just preparation for college—it’s a transformative experience that builds confidence, independence, and community. But don’t just take our word for it. Hear directly from our students and parents about how the Summer Cohort helped them navigate the transition to college and beyond.
Parents

“My question about Focus Collegiate was: can she jump right into a new situation, with new peers and educators, and do hard things without that long runway of trust? James and I were like, “Let’s see.” And also knowing it would be heartbreaking if she couldn’t do it. But if she couldn’t, that is important information for us to know.
So, she did. And she did. We were blown away.” Read the entire interview here.

“Thanks to your coaching, Samantha is on top of her classes and able to balance coursework and free time activities. You’ve also talked through numerous social situations helping her keep the friend dramas to a minimum. She now has a solidly supportive friend group.
Samantha confidently led this weekend’s excursion on Amtrak to the Museum followed by dim sum in Chinatown and cannoli in Little Italy. We attribute all this independence and success to your guidance and the opportunities provided during your Summer Cohort program.”

“We are very appreciative of the support you provided, and know that you have always been available. That peace of mind was very helpful as we all transitioned into this year, our daughter’s first in college!”

Students
Each year, Focus Collegiate’s Summer Cohort supports students in developing the skills and mindset needed for a successful college transition. Our students consistently share powerful stories of growth, connection, and achievement. Here are their experiences—in their own words.
Talia
Focus Collegiate helped Talia Alperin understand the skills she needs for college. She also gained an appreciation for the social dynamic. She also found a supportive community where “People here are really open about why they’re at Focus Collegiate.”
Jaren
Jaren Roberts, a self-described introvert, found it “surprisingly easy to make friends” at Focus Collegiate’s Summer Cohort. “Instantly when I came here, I had a friend group.” Summer Cohort “really feels like being in college before going to college… Now I’m not that scared about the transition.”
